Bayou Event Offers A New Taste To Fundraisers

One of Waco’s most active youth supportive organizations prides itself on offering unique and effective programs to help area youth. Part of the process of funding these programs is by offering an one of a kind and enjoyable experience at their annual fundraising event, “Down on the Bayou.”

The organization’s fundraiser is a crucial part toward the ongoing ability to aid the many programs run by Youth Connection.

This year’s “Down on the Bayou” was a huge success! It’s our one big fundraiser for the organization. It is something really fun and benefits a great organization. Special thanks to all our 2013 sponsors for making “Down on the Bayou” possible!

“Down on the Bayou” is a Cajun-themed event which included live music by a Zydeco band called Classie Ballou and the Family Band, authentic Cajun food and a silent auction. This year’s “Down on the Bayou” event will be held on September 13, 2014 at The Phoenix Ballroom in downtown Waco,TX.

The true authentic Cajun food and theme made the fundraiser different than other fundraisers in the Waco and Central Texas area, said Youth Connection Executive Director Carolyn Nichols.

“Our fundraiser is truly a fun and unique experience that you can’t get anywhere else,” Nichols said.

This uniqueness of the event has been noticed and recognized by the Waco Tribune-Herald as the best local annual event in entertainment by the newspaper’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

Youth Connection is excited to report that “Down on the Bayou” fundraiser event has grown in more ways than one. Our caterer, Patti’s Kitchen, is also a board member from New Orleans, so the food was definitely authentic.

Many generous sponsors help the event maintain its consistency every year. Hillcrest Hospital, Beltone Hearing Center and H-E-B are just a few.

All proceeds of the event go towards funding the various Youth Connection services such as the RealCare Baby program, Too Cool For Trouble after school program, and their teen mother assistance program. The success of the event is a vital component to make the organization effective for the youth it reaches.

“Our ‘Down on the Bayou’ fundraising event plays a crucial part toward our ongoing ability to aid the many young people we work with and benefits programs in an effort to enhance their lives,” Nichols said.
