We are bringing Craig J. Boykin to Waco as our keynote/sessions speaker. Craig is a renowned speaker, author, community activist,, and mentor. He has devoted his life to creating lasting change for those who desire it; Craig has risen to national stage by delivering his inspirational message which tells people how to shake off mediocrity and live up to their greatness. It is a message Craig has learned from his own life and one he is helping others apply to their lives. Craig is one of the nation’s leading authorities in understanding and stimulating human potential, utilizing a powerful delivery and newly emerging insights to teach, inspire and channel people to new levels of achievement.  Most motivational speakers offer canned approaches to their strategies, but Craig J. Boykin uses his expansive real life understanding and extensive education to develop presentations that will inspire motivation along with accountability.

In addition, Waco’s own Dr. Jimmy Dorrell will be our morning breakout presenter.

After moving into a blighted neighborhood in North Waco with his family 41 years ago, he created an “empowerment-based” non-profit organization that has existed for 25 years. Part of his mission is to do community development in the formerly poor neighborhood, which has included the restoration of an abandoned shopping center (now a successful café, performing theater, offices, visual arts center and youth center), a non-profit grocery store in a food desert, an aquaponics center, a children’s center, a homeless shelter, and a “one-stop shop” for social services. Jimmy will present on “From the Mountain to the Valley: Facing the challenges of poverty and marginalization in our own communities from an incarnational model.” His presentation will focus on:

  1. The importance of working “with” instead of “for” the poor and marginalized.
  2. Empowerment vs. relief as an effective model of community engagement and change.
  3. The negative challenges of doing “relief” instead of “development.”
  4. Listening to the community
  5. Facing social injustices such as racism, sexism, and judgmentalism in community

Join us on April 13th for a day of education, insight and sharing as we work to positively impact others in our communities and lives.
